The dining philosophers problem There are some Philosophers whose work is just thinking and eating. Let there are 5 (for example) philosophers. They sat at a round table for dinner. To complete dinner each must need two Forks (spoons). But there are only 5 Forks available (Forks always equal to no. of Philosophers) on table. They take in such a manner that, first take left Fork and next right Fork. But problem is they try to take at same time. Since they are trying at same time, Fork 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 taken by Philosopher 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 respectively (since they are left side of each). And each one tries to ta ke right side Fork. But no one found available Fork. And also that each one thinks that someone will release the Fork and then I can eat. This continuous waiting leads to Dead Lock situation So...

A Coin for a Thought The 13th of December was our last GNCT session for the 1st year. Like all other days of GNCT, we had an interesting session. First, Miss.Sarasi collected a coin from each of us and all the coins were put in to a purse. Then the purse was rotated through the class and the moment where Miss.Sarasi tapped the table, the person with the purse had to take a coin out and he had to speak about the memories he had related to the year of the coin. The session was going awesome as this was totally impromptu and our colleagues were bringing out some funny and interesting things happened to them in the respective years. When I got the chance to speak, the coin I got was a 2/- coin which was released in 2006. So, here is the story which I related to the class, the story of how I survived Death . It was the month of December in 2006, and it was a rainy season. One Sunday morning I was playing in the garden and suddenly I got the idea of overseeing th...

The Lava River We had some real fun because of the activity we got to do today. We were divided in to 4 groups 5 in each, and we were given round shaped card boards. The activity we were supposed to do was to cross the classroom from one end to the other using the limited card boards we had got, with all the group members while ensuring that non of us our feet touched the tile instead of the card board. The task was really challenging because we had to work smart and hard making sure we were fulfilling the conditions. We tried our best to succeed, but unfortunately, our team couldn't cross the classroom successfully. Even this was a small challenge, we learned lots of things through this challenge. We were able to build our team spirit, the team courage and team work. This activity immensely helped in building up our patience too... www.kln.ac.lk

Culture 6th of December, was an amazing day for all of us. All of us had an noval experiance. First, we were divided in to 2 groups and we were given a new type of challenge. The challange was focusing the theme Culture , and each team had to create their own culture which includes customs, songs, language, food and dance etc..which are unique to each of them. Our group planned of a cultural activity with a wedding scenario, which happened according to our own traditions and customs. We had our own dress, our own ways of conducting the wedding. We had to do this activity as a drama and we were given 20 minutes to prepare. Finally we came up with a drama which was depicting all the conditions we were given and after the feedback given by the lecture only we realized that we could have improved more. This activity helped us to identify the various aspects of a culture, how to deal with them and the uniqueness of a culture. This helped us in being sensitive towards other...

Personal Goals This week,15th of November we had to illustrate our personal goals on a Bristol board and had to present it in front of the class. This activity made me realize the actual goals of my life at a situation where I didn't have any idea of my future. This activity really helped all of us to identify our future goals as well as the challenges yet to come. My plan is to be graduated with a first class degree in 2022 and secure a place at WSO2 in 2023. I will get married at the age of 28. I will build my own house by 2030 and I will buy my own car at the age of 36. On the way I'll have 2-3 children. My main vision is to build up my own startup at the age of 43 and to be a CEO. At the age of 48, I will visit the the Mecca in order to complete my holy pilgrimage. I will retire at the age of 55 and thereafter I'll spend my life leisurely with my grand children. This activity helped us to identify our own challenges and have stratergies on them. This ...
